On August 5-8, 2004, the Cole Hampton Lee Family Reunion was held for
the first time in New York. There were over 150 in attendance.
The family gathered at the Southgate Towers Suites Hotel and enjoyed
visiting, sight-seeing, dining and the traditional reunion banquet and
picnic. A beautiful banquet was presented by the host committee,
in loving memory of their mother, Gladys M. Cole-Smith. Family
members from 10 states addressed the gathering bringing greetings from
Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Derrick Gordon
entertained the group with a moving dance presentation. Timothy
James from City Councilman Leroy G. Comrie, Jr.'s office presented a
proclamation from the Council welcoming the Cole Hampton and Lee Family
Reunion to New York. Carl Ray charmed the crowd with his humor when
making the scholarship and family history reports. Children of all
ages enjoyed the non-stop entertainment at the picnic on Long Island.
At the closing service on Sunday, these family members who have passed
on since the last reunion were remembered: Sarah Austin, Bobby Joe
Vance, Ardell Hampton, Alfred "Cookie" Grimes and Lois Cole. For more photos, click
