Alabama Hampton was the daughter of Lizzy Vinson. Her step father was Jack Vinson. In 1880 she married James Hampton. She was very proud. She wouldn't let her grandchildren see her unless she was wearing a fresh white apron. She made them delicious teacakes, but they had to take her an egg. She was petite, 5 feet, brown skinned, strict and loved to garden and can. She could read and write and was a perfect wife for a minister. She fought for her property in the Alabama courts, all the way up to the supreme court, but lost on November 28, 1918. She died of tuberculosis, and is buried at Galilee in Leighton with her husband James.
