Hattie Cole was the second oldest child of Parthenia and Enoch Cole. She was born in Cave Springs, Alabama.
Hattie married James Lee in 1893. They lived in Roe, Arkansas. After her husband James died,
her son Ed took her and his sister, Susie Lee to Detroit. She took a job in a nursing home in Detroit at age 76.
She was a strong matriarch of her family. No one, adult or child, was inclined to cross Hattie. It is said that
she "spanked no clothes." She was fair skinned with straight hair, busy, always involved and "always minding someone
else's business." She was reportedly out visiting when Susie died. Hattie died in Detroit in 1962.
