Harry Lloyd Thompson
Born: February 4, 1931 in Sheffield, AL Died: February 15, 1951 at Fort Lawton, Washington
Harry Lloyd Thompson was the son of Hattie Lee Hampton. He was raised by his grandmother,
Matilda. He was happy, liked to tease, had a good sense of humor, and was very popluar.
He wanted to finish college and build a nice house for his wife and grandma. Lloyd had rheumatic fever when he was 12
years old which kept him out of school for six months. He suffered from headaches as a teen and after joining the army
he died from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 20. He had been in the army only two days. He stooped to tie his shoes
and collapsed. The obituary printed in the newspaper listed several ailments including "flat feet" which should have kept
him from being admitted to the army.
Oral history note: Mabel Hampton says of her nephew, "Lloyd and I were just like sister and brother. We were always together.
We were only 6 years apart in age. Lloyd was crazy about Brenda, Percy and Lessie's daughter. They lived right next door."
