LORRAINE LOUELLA COLE ANDERSON

  Born: November 12, 1925. Died: June 9, 2009
Lorraine Luella Cole, the youngest of 9 children of Annie and Enoch Cole, entered this life in St. Louis, Missouri on November 12, 1925. In Missouri, she attended James Milton Turner Elementary School in Kirkwood, graduated from Douglass High School in Webster Groves and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Meacham Park.

She met and married Ezekiel Bill Wilkerson in Seattle, WA. where she was in the USO and he was in the Army. They moved to New York City where their first child was born. They later moved to California and eventually lived with their six children in East Menlo Park, CA. Lorraine later married Cleo Anderson. They ran a Bar-B-Q restaurant in East Palo Alto and later resided in San Jose, CA.

Lorraine was an amazing mother to her children. She worked for 20+ years at the Veteran's Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. Upon retiring, she worked or volunteered at 7-11 Eleven Food Stores, as a game day usher for the 49ers and conducted surveys. She volunteered at the Tech Museum in San Jose and for her neighborhood community watch. She "catered" at our school events, church events, all family parties and even our work parties. And at every place touched by her life she found friends and needs she could and would fill.

She didn't like sports, unless it was the Giants or Tiger Woods on a winning streak. She didn't like politics, until Obama, "never in my lifetime "with "Yes We Can" hit the street. And she didn't like to go or do much unless it involved being with family and friends and making sure they had plenty to eat.

She took tennis lessons at 70, golf lessons at 75, and after fully retiring from volunteer and career work at 80, she spoke daily with one or more of her children, participated in aerobics three times a week, book club on Tuesday, Bible Study on Thursday, and entertained family and friends most weekends, unless she was going to a play, concert, or recital of a grandchild or friend's grandchild. What she loved most of all was daily walks around the grounds at her home that she selected and purchased outright at the Villages in San Jose, CA.

She told us often she did not want a funeral. We didn't stop to ask why as we did not think it was a topic we had to worry about for many, many years. But as we reflect we realize that she was a doer; she did not want much attention for herself. Life's meaning for her was feeding the bodies and hearts of others.

On June 9, 2009, after complications resulting from surgery to repair a broken hip resulting from a fall, Lorraine Luella Cole Anderson departed this life.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Addie Wallace and Gladys Jenkins, her sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ringgold and Gladys Pressley, her brothers, Joseph Cole and Charles Pressley , her brother- in- law Arnold Wallace, her children Gail Wilkerson Kelly( John), Renee Wilkerson Anderson ( Larry), Ezekiel Melvin Wilkerson ( Augusta), Jeffrey Charles Wilkerson ( Paulette) and Donna Wilkerson Young (Kenney), (she was pre-deceased by her daughter Eleanor Wilkerson Minor), 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and innumerable friends.
