Sam Cole
lived in Widner, Arkansas, and frequently visited his sister,
Matilda after her first husband, Percy, died. He married Mariah
Watkins of Tuscumbia in 1904. To this union, 11 children were
born: Kirk, Freddie, Leroy, Cardell, Floyd, Vivian, Pecola, Samella and
3 that died at an early age. In 1908 they moved to Roe, Arkansas. Sam raised cotton
and corn. He was a deacon at Mt. Carmel Church in Roe, Arkansas.
